PARIS – Heavy rains forced the remaining two quarterfinals in men's and women's singles at the French Open to be postponed on Wednesday.
The four matches concerned, including those involving defending women's champion Simona Halep and world number-one Novak Djokovic, will be played on Thursday.
This delay means that the semifinals will likely be contested alongside the men's semi-finals on Friday.
The forecasts for Paris are good for Thursday: optimal sunshine, temperatures of about 68 degrees.
Halep, seeded third, will face Amanda Anisimova, American teenager, while Ash Barty, eighth seeded, will meet Madison Keys, a fourth seed.
In the men's standings, Djokovic, the favorite, will have 25 Grand Slam victories over No. 5 Alexander Zverev, and French Open finalist Dominic Thiem will play against Karen Khachanov, number 10.
The game was wiped out by the rain at the Open de France for a day in 2016. Before that, it had not happened since 2000.
Roland Garros is the only Grand Slam venue without a covered yard. a retractable roof should be added to the main stadium before the tournament next year.
