Rakewon’s VERZUZ and Ghostface Killah: here’s what happened

Raekwon and Ghostface Killah clashed for a showdown with the Wu-Tang family in VERZUZ on Saturday night (March 20). See the turn-by-turn breakdown below.

During their time together, the two recalled a trip they took to Barbados together. RZA stopped to say hello at one point, as Young Dirty Bastard, the son of the late Wu-Tang partner Ol ‘Dirty Bastard. RZA later returned to toast towards the end of the show. Cappadonna appeared to perform her guest verse on Raekwon’s “Ice Cream”, and Masta Killa stepped up for “Glaciers of Ice”. Ghostface Killah has joined a tour with Raekwon, performing “Criminology” since the latter’s solo debut in 1995. Only built 4 Cuban Linx …

After “half-time,” Raekwon said he was drunk and resuming proceedings without waiting for Ghostface Killah to return from his break. Inspectah Deck then joined him for “CREAM” from the Wu-Tang Clan, and Ghostface returned to the set in a ankle-length white mink coat. On lap 19, Raekwon started with Jodeci’s “Freek’n You (Mr. Dalvin’s Freek Mix)”, which Ghostface in turn finished.

VERZUZ returned for its second season late last year, with a Legends of the Bay face-to-face between Too $ hort and E-40 in December and a twice postponed battle between Ashanti and Keyshia. Cole. D’Angelo changed the format in February with a solo appearance at the Apollo Theater, with Redman, Method man and HER joining him as guests. Earlier this month, founders Timbaland and Swizz Beats announced that they had sold VERZUZ to the short video app Triller, with former VERZUZ performers becoming stakeholders in the new setup.
