Power rankings do not mean much, but they are fun.
And having entered the playoffs the past two years and have won four playoff games in the past two years, the Eagles are considered one of the best teams in the NFL.
But how are they good?
Well, we looked at the NFL rankings of power for eight different sites. The Eagles' highest ranking was 6 and the lowest was 10. Their average on the eight power rankings we surveyed was 7.875.
Here is an overview of all:
ESPN: 10
What they said: The Eagles traded against Jordan Howard and selected Penn State's Miles Sanders in the second round. The infusion of talent will elevate a unit that ranked 28th in the race last season (1,570 yards) and was second in the bottom in number of yards per attempt.
Our take: This is the ranking of ESPN based on nerve statistics. The Bears and Falcons are ahead of them.
Peter King: 8
What they said: I trust Carson Wentz to play a full season. If I was not there and I thought Nate Sudfeld would be the Nick Foles in 2019, I would not make the Eagles eighth. So … I have the Eagles that allow Foles to go free. It was a thing to do. Foles, more than any other player, was responsible for Philly's victory in his first Super Bowl and writing one of the best stories in recent NFL history. And then, Foles had a ridiculous second run last year, resulting in 16-15 playoff wins over the Bears in Chicago, and he was so loved in the Eagles locker room that Chris Long built a sanctuary for Foles in his locker. He wanted to leave. He wanted another shot, at 30, to have his own team, a team that would not put him in the shadow of the future quarterback of the franchise. So Foles had the golden handshake of Doug Pederson, Howie Roseman and Jeff Lurie. Good for Foles. I'm not sure that's the best thing for the Eagles. However, if they had kept it for a few years with legitimate quarter-money, it might have led the valuable long-term player Brandon Graham to leave the free investment position; can not sign them all. The Eagles can trust Carson Wentz, in his health and abilities. (I would be too) but of course? No way. Wentz was lost for the season in two decembers in a row, with a torn LCA and vertebral fracture, and missed 13 of the Eagles' last 24 games. By 2018, he was not the daring player he was before his ACL tear, and not just because of the 4-6 record in his last 10 starts. It may be a good thing that there is more in the pocket (it was more accurate, of course), and it probably serves him better for a long career. But the Eagles have to find the right balance between Derring-do and pocket, for Wentz, because it's an excellent weapon out of pocket.
Our take: We do not talk much about Foles. He would never come back. But King is right about Wentz. He must be on the ground. I really do not understand why the 49ers are at number 7. I understand that King is trying to make a brave choice but it's hard to sell for me.
Sports News: 10
What they said: Carson Wentz is nothing more comfortable, so it's up to him to stay sustainable and enjoy all the bonus that the Eagles brought him. The backbone of Jim Schwartz's defense keeps this team among the most complete in the league.
Our take: The Bears, Packers and Browns are ahead of the Eagles. I do not see that true. I know the Bears had a better record than the Eagles last year, but the Eagles went to their building and won in the playoffs. And the Eagles have a better quarter.
USA Today: 6
What they said: Quarterback Carson Wentz is equipped with everything he needs to bring Philly to the top … except the guarantee that he can finally get through a unscathed season.
Our take: This guy is out on some members. The Vikings are at 5 o'clock and the Rams at 7 and the chefs at 8. I understand that I jump from Kansas City, but the Rams should still be very good, right? Still, the Eagles at age 6 make sense.
CBS Sports: 7
What they said: Carson Wentz will be back and this will intensify the offense. What Jordan Howard will bring to help?
Our take: The Packers are well ahead at number 2, which is too early for them. But the Eagles are behind the Rams and the Saints in the NFC, I'm fine.
NBC Sports Bay: 9
What they said: The Eagles had a solid draft and will remain a competent team on both sides of the ball. They are strong on both fronts and explosive in the passing game. There is, however, no Nick Foles safety net this year. Carson Wentz just needs to stay healthy or the season is spiraling.
Our take: The bears, rams and saints are ahead of the Eagles. I do not agree on the Bears, but it's not bad. The Browns are at No. 6. The hype is real.
NFL.com: 6
What they said: "All the Right Moves" is both the name of a poor 1983 Cruise Tom Cruise football movie and the right tag for what the NFL champions are doing in 2017. Philadelphia took the lead in the first round placing the Texans (23rd overall) 22nd overall to ensure replacement of Jason Peters' replacement, Andre Dillard, who will end up looking for the blind side of Carson Wentz. . Other drafting bravery: I still enjoy the work of Jordan Howard midfielder, though Doug Pederson's team added a Penn State quality player (Miles Sanders) in the second round (No. 53 overall ). Our take: I think that's true, at least for third place in the NFC Eagles. This has bears at No. 7, which, in my opinion, is just right.

What they said: It's Carson's show now.
In the past two years, the Philadelphia Eagles have been forced to turn to substitute quarterback Nick Foles after Carson Wentz injured late in the season. It will not be an option for the team in 2019. Foles will lead the Jaguars this year.
This makes Wentz's health the biggest potential concern for the team. This is not the only one. with Jordan Hicks gone, the linebacker's place is uncertain, and Michael Bennett's trade was a blow to the defensive line.
But the Eagles added D-line support to the free agent by hiring Malik Jackson and bringing back Vinny Curry. Two of Philly's top three picks (tackle Andre Dillard and wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside) have both been excellent.
Our take: The bears, rams and saints are ahead of the Eagles. We went there. But that seems to be the biggest difference: Are the Eagles or Bears the third best team in the NFC?
