Rams cut 5 players, including Derrick Moncrief and George Silvanic

The NFL is demanding that each team reduce their roster to 85 players by Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET, down from the current limit of 90 players. The Rams are wasting no time making the necessary moves, releasing five players on Monday.

According to the deal thread, the Rams have released the following players:

  • K Austin MacGinnis
  • LB Derrick Moncrief
  • OT Ryan Pope
  • DL Max Roberts
  • DL George Silvanic

No big surprises here, and there shouldn’t be any consideration that the Rams still have 85 players on the roster. MacGinnis wasn’t going to beat Matt Gay for the kick, but it further strengthens Gay’s place as a starter.

Moncrief struggled against the Chargers on Saturday and plays a position with excellent depth so making the squad was going to be tough

Pope was signed last week to add tackling depth but ended up playing just one game against the special teams in the opener of the preseason. The Rams only used seven offensive linemen in this game.

Roberts and Silvanic also play positions the Rams are deep in and neither player really stood out against Los Angeles in Game 1 of the preseason.
