The Green Bay Packers likely won’t have injury breaks when the Los Angeles Rams arrive at Lambeau Field for Saturday’s NFC Division Round playoff game.
Rams coach Sean McVay said Sunday he expects defensive lineman Aaron Donald and wide receiver Cooper Kupp to face the Packers despite further injuries.
The Rams upset the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, but Donald (ribs) and Kupp (knee) left the game and did not return. McVay qualified the everyday two and expressed confidence in the two’s ability to play against the Packers in the next round of the playoffs.
Donald injured his ribs while facing Russell Wilson in the second half. Kupp hobbled at the end of a play at the end of the fourth quarter.
Donald is a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year and the game’s most disruptive defensive lineman. A first-team All-Pro for the sixth consecutive season, Donald produced 13.5 sacks, 27 quarterback hits and four forced fumbles in 16 games of 2020.
Kupp, the Rams’ main receiver, has caught 92 passes for 974 yards and three touchdowns this season.
The Rams have yet to decide who will play the quarterback on Saturday. McVay must choose between Jared Goff, who is treating a thumb injury, and John Wolford, who was knocked out of Saturday’s win with a stinger. While the quarterback situation looks risky, the Rams would get a big boost in Lambeau Field if Donald and Kupp could play.
It’s unclear how the elements at Green Bay – including the cold weather – would affect the Rams’ injury situation.
The Rams won’t issue an injury report until later this week. The official injury designations for the match will not be available until Friday.
