Los Angeles Rams linebacker Kenny Young was forced out early in Week 2.
Young was sent off Sunday afternoon for making contact with a referee late in the third quarter against the Indianapolis Colts. It appears that he hit the referee’s cap, which shook the referee’s glasses.
Defensive tackle Aaron Donald and cornerback Jalen Ramsey tried to calm Young down after the game. The game was in the red zone. Young was sent off, the team received a 10-yard penalty for disqualification, and the Colts’ Zach Pascal received a 15-yard penalty on the play for taunt.
The incident occurred after Colts running back Jonathan Taylor was hit in the backfield for a one-yard loss with about five minutes into the third. Near the outside of the scrum, Young started yelling at a referee and appeared to accidentally hit the referee’s hat. The Colts were on the Rams’ 3-yard line.
Indianapolis scored three games later on an 8-yard pass from Carson Wentz to Pascal. The Colts completed the two-point conversion that reduced their deficit to 17-14 at the end of the third.
Rookie Ernest Jones replaced Young to end the game, which the Rams hung on to win, 27-24.
