Random: Internet dives into Space Jam 2’s Game Boy Cameo

Pedants and mega-nerds, look away now: Space Jam: a new legacy had a nice Game Boy cameo, and in a shocking turn of events, people on the internet are mad about it.

During the first five minutes of the film, in the midst of the usual setup of “the young boy has a dream, but is also sad,” a miniature version of LeBron James receives a Game Boy from a friend, who leaves. then, apparently not. worried about leaving an expensive console in the hands of another child or hanging out with their friend.

Lebron’s friend says, as he hands over the original DMG Game Boy, “my dad bought me the new color”, and hell isn’t the internet happy with that. “This is not a Game Boy Color f ** king,” Fanbyte says; on Twitter people are annoyed that Warner Brothers “couldn’t even bother to make it a Game Boy Color“.

Now we’re not averse to screaming on the screen when movies and TV get video games all falsebecause they certainly do a lot, whether it’s not plugging in the controller or playing a PS4 game on an NES. Hmm. But in our take on the scene, the kid says his dad gave him a Game Boy Color, and so LeBron can have his old, crappy, colorless one. It’s still generous enough, but not the glaring mistake it seems at first glance.

Shortly after receiving the Game Boy gift, young LeBron begins playing the game he was also given: The Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle, which ties in well with Space jamLooney Tunes heavy storytelling (LeBron also has a Looney Tunes backpack, because of course he does). As he plays, the game projected behind him slowly transforms into details in color, which, of course, is far more sophisticated than a Game Boy game.

Again, people seemed a little irritated by it, although mainly because the game doesn’t exist and they would very much wish it existed. Developer Kemco still exists, however; maybe it could come true.

But don’t we all remember our childhood games through the hazy prism of nostalgia, just as people who grew up with black and white television imagined bright, vivid colors? In our interpretation, which must certainly be taken with a few grains of salt, little LeBron sees the game come to life in his imagination. We will give him a pass.

But the straw that broke the camel’s back is what happens next to the Game Boy. LeBron’s coach gets angry disappointed that LeBron’s head isn’t in the game, and tells him that video games are just a distraction, something that will prevent him from having a lucrative basketball career. The kid is about ten years old, but of course let’s blame him for not help her single mom put food on the table and having only one hobby outside of basketball.

LeBron takes this to heart, of course, and puts the Game Boy in a desk drawer to keep it safe THE JET AT THE BAC. James ! It was a gift! You awful, awful child.

We have to assume that the remaining 110 minutes of the film is spent with LeBron atoning for his crimes against video game preservation.
