Random: Oops, Super Nintendo World’s cactus appears to have come out of a fan-made game

Super Nintendo World’s the opening may have been delayed recently but – when the pandemic is over – we’ll be happy to see it in person. Naturally, fans took a look at the details provided and one of them made a more unusual discovery: the theme park’s cactus design is slightly of.

Access to Twiitter, user @ meatball132 pointed out that the cactus model used is from New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a fan-made mod from 2013. Designed to overhaul New Super Mario Bros. Wii with new levels, bosses, updated graphics and more, it appears specifically in “Rubble Ruins” of World 2.

As to why this happened, Meatball132 thinks it was likely due to an error in Google’s search results, which show images of Newer Super Mario Bros. Wii if you are looking for “New Super Mario Bros. Wii Cactus”. This isn’t the first time the team behind Super Nintendo World has fallen into error here, given that a fan-made Mario rendering was spotted on the official site last month.

The error comes amid legal tensions between fans and Nintendo, which have ended many fan plans in recent years. Recent examples include an unofficial Mario Kart service and a fan-made Zelda game. Probably with this in mind, Meatball132 has clarified it was “just a cool thing that we noticed” and ask people not to as well angry with anyone.

Was it just a reckless oversight? Let us know in the comments below.
