It was the first day of my favorite week of the baseball year – divisional playoff week. Someone had to sit in front of the old flat screen and watch baseball for seven and a half hours. That someone was me.
I saw an unforgettable house robbery. I saw an Astros game that I swore I had seen before. I have seen a lot of amazing things. And the good news for you is that I have reported all of my findings to the Weird and Wild department. So there you have it, the first Weird and Wild playoff extravaganza of 2021.

From April to September, Randy Arozarena is a fun player. An essential player. Such a talented player that he is almost certain to become the AL Rookie of the Year.
But it’s not April through September anymore, is it? It’s October. And in October, Randy Arozarena transforms into a player of the Willie Mays genre. And until I hit that line, I thought the only type of Willie Mays player who ever lived was… Willie Mays!
Thursday evening, during the first match of the ALDS, the mesmerizing outfielder of the Rays offered himself a night. He has reached the base three times. Hit another titanic homerun in the playoffs. Made a spectacular base running game to score the game’s first point. But let’s face it, we won’t remember any of this in five, 10 or 50 years. We will remember it!
Simply calling it “a house robbery” does not do it justice. It wasn’t a double robbery or sloppy run-down or the kind of house robbery we are normally stuck with here in the 21st century. It was a baseball flash, straight out of a Jackie Robinson highlight reel.
