Gearbox Software co-founder Randy Pitchford is stepping down as president of the company.
Former CTO Steve Jones replaces him in this role, while Pitchford remains CEO of The Gearbox Entertainment Company (the holding company of Gearbox Software) and chairman of Gearbox Studios, which will oversee the development of Gearbox for movie shows and of TV.
Jones joined Gearbox in May 1999 (thanks, GiN), working on Half-Life: Opposing Force, implementing a client-server network model for the Halo PC port and leading the multiplayer code team for the original brothers in arms. .
He was then appointed CTO of Borderlands and Borderlands 2, before being named CTO in 2016.
In a tweet, Pitchford explained that he will be responsible for “high-level creative and business strategy” while also serving as “hybrid” creative director when required.

Pitchford has had a checkered history as president of Gearbox Software, to say the least.
