Rangers send Adam McQuaid to Blue Jackets on sale

The road of reconstruction continued to advance, with the Rangers sending defenseman Adam McQuaid to the Blue Jackets about an hour before Monday at 3 pm deadline, getting fourth and seventh round picks in return.

McQuaid, 32, was in the final year of a contract with an annual salary increase of $ 2.75 million. The Rangers won in an exchange on Sept. 11, sending Steven Kampfer, a fourth-round pick and a fourth-round draft pick to the Bruins, with whom he won the Stanley Cup in 2011.

McQuaid played 36 games with the Rangers, scoring two goals and five points in addition to 33 penalty minutes. The right-handed shot with a physical advantage, and now joins John Tortorella's Blue Jackets with a chance to make a deep race in the playoffs.

Earlier in the day, Rangers GM Jeff Gorton gave the Jets another free agent, without restrictions, Kevin Hayes. On Sunday, Gorton traded Mats Zuccarello to the Stars.
