The Rangers agreed to a historic four-year extension with restricted free agent and starting goalie Igor Shesterkin on Monday.
The deal is for an average annual value of $ 5.666 million, making it the second-biggest contract for a goaltender in league history, Larry Brooks of the Post reported.
The previous record was held by Sergei Bobrovsky, who earned $ 5.625 million per year on his second contract with the Flyers and is now paid an average of $ 10 million per year by the Panthers.
Shesterkin, 25, was 16-14-3 last season with a 2.62 goals-against average and .916 save percentage.
