A Louisiana rapper and a former NFL player are now facing drug and firearms charges following a roadside check in Newnan.
Torrence Hatch Jr., commonly known as "Boosie BadAzz" and Antonio Allen, a former New York Jets Free Security Guard, are currently in Coweta County Jail after investigators found a loaded firearm and marijuana in their car.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon when a member said he noticed a white Dodge Charger that was deviating from his lane and almost touching a vehicle on Newnan Crossing Bypass.
Sgt. Jeff Bugg of the Coweta County Sheriff's Office parked the car at Truitt's Chick-fil-A car park. After talking with the driver, identified as Hatch, Bugg said he noticed a strong smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Hatch was stopped and placed at the back of a police car while the passenger, identified as Allen, remained inside the Charger.
A search of the vehicle revealed a small bag containing about 11 grams of suspected marijuana between Allen's door and seat, and a 9mm loaded handgun under his seat, according to Bugg.
Investigators found a bag containing a large sum of money and a spray pen containing suspected THC oil in the center console, Bugg said.
Hatch admitted to talking on the phone while driving – a crime in the state of Georgia – and that Allen was his bodyguard, according to Bugg.
According to Bugg magazine, the Charger was considered a rental in Florida, but was not registered in the name of either Hatch or Allen.
Hatch, 36, and Allen, 30, were charged with possession of marijuana, possession of an Schedule 1 drug, and possession of a firearm while committing the drug. A crime.
Hatch has also been accused of failing to maintain his path.
The two men are currently being held at Coweta County Jail.
It was not the first time that Hatch was fighting the law. In 2009, he was sentenced to four years in prison for drug and firearms charges after East Sheriff's deputies from East Baton Rouge found marijuana and a gun in his car.
In 2010, Hatch was charged with first degree murder and was also sentenced to eight years in prison for drug possession with intent to distribute. He spent three and a half years on death row before being convicted of murder in 2012.
After serving five years in prison, Hatch was released early on March 5, 2014 and remained on parole until 2018.
Allen, a former NFL Safety member, was drafted by the New York Jets in the seventh round of the NFL draft in 2012. He then played with the Houston Texans before returning to the Jets in 2016 and was placed on the reserve list of the wounded.
Allen currently has felony orders out of South Carolina for gun and drug charges, according to Bugg.
Bugg said the charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted criminal are ongoing for both men.
