According to National Geographic, there is a 1 in 50 chance that these lobsters will be found. The colors of the exploded lobster "are usually separated in the center or checkerboard".

The rare lobster is currently on display at the Center's Discovery Wharf in Stonington, alongside three other rare lobsters – two calico and one blue – until mid-October.
