Rarest Nintendo e-Reader Card of 2002 Found

In 2002, Nintendo gave away special cards for the Nintendo e-Reader device at E3 in order to generate excitement for their new product. Now one of these cards has appeared on eBay and is selling for thousands of dollars.

The Nintendo e-Reader was a device that could be connected to a Game Boy Advance, and players could scan special cards on it for various purposes. In the GBA port of Super Mario Bros 3, for example, these cards can be used to earn extra bonuses, unlock special levels, or play mini-games. During E3 2002, Nintendo handed out card packs for the Nintendo eReader, and some of those cards were special Kirby cards used for a contest. As this 2007 card article explains, there were three varieties: a large number of no-prize community cards, 100 second-prize cards, and 10 first-prize cards. The winning cards that were redeemed were destroyed to prevent them from being reused. This made premium cards the rarest Nintendo e-Reader card on the market.

However, one of these cards was listed on eBay. The seller, whose eBay account dates back to 2005 with a 100% seller rating, says he is arranging the sale of this card as an auction because of its rarity and lack of precedent. As for the condition of the card, it is listed as “used”, which is not too surprising, as the card must be scanned to prove its authenticity. To prove this to be true, the seller also posted a photo of the card with the first prize message on the GBA, along with the video above showing the card in use and the message displayed on the GBA.

The Nintendo e-Reader E3 2002 card currently costs $ 7,200 on eBay, and the auction will close on Thursday shortly before noon EST.
