Rashard Higgins hopes to re-sign with Browns before entering the market, ‘but I haven’t seen an offer yet’

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Rashard “Hollywood” Higgins would love to continue walking the red carpet with the Browns, but he knows he could hit the free agent market in a few weeks.

“I haven’t seen an offer yet,” Higgins told cleveland.com on Friday.

Higgins and most of the Browns’ other pending free agents have yet to receive offers as the salary cap has yet to be determined and the start of free agency is still just over two weeks away.

Teams can start negotiating with players whose contracts expire on March 15 and close those deals on March 17, the start of the league year.

The Browns are very fond of Higgins and would like to find him at a fair price. According to spotrac.com, its market value is around four years, $ 24.75 million – an average of over $ 6 million a year – which could be more than what the Browns want to pay.

They have more than $ 30 million tied up in 2021 to Odell Beckham Jr. ($ 15.75 million) and Jarvis Landry ($ 14.753 million), and might not want the receiver room to occupy more than 20% of the planned cap of $ 185 million.

But Higgins had a good 2020 season, catching 37 of 49 targets for 599 yards and four touchdowns despite starting just six games after Beckham suffered an ACL tear. A 2016 fifth-round pick in Colorado state, he’s also a favorite target for Baker Mayfield, who was 126.1 in 2020 when he aimed for Higgins, a top club.

In the last offseason, Higgins entered free agency, but re-signed a one-year contract with the Browns worth $ 910,000, offering slightly higher bids to stay in Cleveland. In an ESPN 850 interview on Friday afternoon, Higgins admitted he was not sure if he would return.

“We want to see when we can get this contract and all that,” he said. “Obviously, if it’s not with the Browns – we want it to be with the Browns – but it’s in the air right now. ”

He has indicated that he will jump at the chance to re-sign here.

“Listen, don’t give up on me. I never gave up on all of you, ” he said. “Tell Andrew [Berry] send the papers and I sign wherever I need to sign. ”
