The Broncos had the opportunity to make a statement Sunday after going 3-0 against the Giants, Jaguars and Jets. They didn’t, losing their quarterback for the second half and their first game of the season.
Teddy Bridgewater was diagnosed with a concussion at halftime after receiving a heavy blow from Odafe Oweh on a failure with 53 seconds left at halftime. The league will examine Oweh’s move to see if it was illegal despite the fact that no flag was thrown.
The Broncos only managed 125 yards in the second half, including 70 on a meaningless final practice, in a decisive 23-7 loss to the Ravens. Both teams are now 3-1.
The Ravens gained 406 yards as Lamar Jackson enjoyed his third career 300-yard passing day and his first since throwing for 365 yards in a playoff loss to the Titans on Jan. 11, 2020. Jackson had 22 yards by 37 for 316 yards. and a touchdown against the Broncos.
The Ravens had just 97 rushing yards when Anthony Averett intercepted Drew Lock, returning the ball to Baltimore’s offense for one last play. Instead of taking a knee, the Ravens ran Jackson around the left end for a gain of 5 yards.
That kept Baltimore’s back-to-back streak alive with 100 rushing yards, tying the Steelers’ 1974-77 NFL record with the 43rd in a row.
Bridgewater ended his day with a 7 of 16 record for 65 yards and a touchdown, while Lock was 12 of 21 for 113 yards and the late interception.
The Broncos have kicked 10 times, including seven straight possessions after their lone touchdown. Their final possession ended with interception.
The Broncos also lost wide receiver Diontae Spencer to a chest injury before the Bridgewater injury, and rookie cornerback Patrick Surtain did not return after a chest injury in the second half.
