Razer Reveals New N95 Face Mask Concept With RGB Lighting And Voice Amplification Technology

[ad_1]

At CES 2021 this week, gaming tech maker Razer revealed a new “smart mask” concept that included an N95 surgical respirator, RGB lighting, and voice amplification technology. The idea behind the smart mask, dubbed Project Hazel, is to both improve safety and address some of the social issues inherent in wearing a face mask like muffled voices while avoiding waste through reuse.

Specifically, the Project Hazel smart mask is made of waterproof, scratch-resistant and recyclable plastic with a waterproof seal made possible by its adjustable earrings. The RGB lighting mentioned above allows for over 16 million colors and dynamic flashes to highlight the wearer’s mouth, and its charging case also includes a disinfectant UV light. And a built-in microphone can amplify the wearer’s voice. According to Razer, Project Hazel’s BFE Smart Pods can “filter at least 95% of airborne particles and have high fluid resistance.”

Project Hazel is not the first time Razer has embarked on supporting the response to COVID-19. You may recall that the company made headlines in early 2020 for converting manufacturing facilities into medical masks for later donation. Project Hazel appears to be the next step in Razer’s efforts, although as a design concept it’s impossible to say at this point whether it will hit the market or just inform other company efforts.

“Razer recognizes the uncertainty on the road ahead, and therefore it was our duty to help protect members of our community and prepare them against unseen threats,” said Min-Liang Tan, co-founder and CEO of Razer, as part of the Project Hazel reveal. “The Project Hazel smart mask concept is intended to be functional, yet comfortable and useful for interacting with the world, while maintaining a sociable aesthetic.”
