The boy from North Carolina is alleged to have foiled a machete on an intruder while he was alone at home last Friday.
The suspect, 19-year-old Jataveon Dashawn Hall, has been wounded in the head with a machete and is currently in detention.
Police said they received an anonymous tip that the burglar allegedly broke into Smith's house in Mebane.
Smith said that he was on the phone with his mother when the suspect entered through a window.
Aged 11, WTVD, our partner station, learned that Hall had found a pellet gun in the house and pointed it at him. He told Smith to enter the closet.
Smith, however, said that he knew that the gun was not loaded, but that he followed the suspect's orders.
The boy then decided to make his move.
"He went into the living room to grab my phone to make sure I did not call 911 or anything, when I saw him trying to put it in his pocket, I I grabbed my machete from my wall and hit it, I hit it on the back of my head, "Smith said.
Smith stated that he had bought his machete with gift cards some time ago and that he used it normally to fell trees.
But this time, it was a weapon of self-defense.
Smith explained that it was thanks to a lesson that his father, Christopher, had taught him a few years ago, when thieves ransacked their home.
"If they go in the door, you let them have it," said Christopher Smith.
Braydon Smith said that he was hesitant, but he was not afraid.

Orange County Sheriff's deputies said Hall had rushed to the hospital, but had refused any further treatment. they escaped later, knowing that the authorities were looking for him.
Hall was then captured and detained.
The deputies are still looking for two of Hall's so-called accomplices.
Braydon Smith said that he would feel safer knowing that the other two suspects are being arrested. But he is ready to protect himself again.

Hall has been charged with break and enter, second degree abduction, interference in emergency communications and assault on a child under 12 years of age.
The 11-year-old girl still had a message to address to the intruder.
"You should not have done what you did – you'd better find a job that would break into other people's homes," said Braydon Smith.
