Real’s Jeannie Mai has lost 15 pounds since emergency throat surgery and feels ‘really fragile’

She made an appearance in Monday night’s Dancing With The Stars Season 29 finale and returned to her animated concert on The Real on Tuesday.

But Jeannie Mai says she still has a way to go to recover from life-saving emergency epiglottis surgery.

“I’m really fragile right now. Really, really fragile [and] really tired because I’m too underweight and malnourished, ” the TV personality, 41, told People.

Mai revealed that she has lost 15 pounds since being hospitalized three weeks ago due to bed rest and a restricted postoperative diet.

“ I couldn’t eat anything for two weeks, so I was tube-fed there in the hospital for a week, and had a nurse come every two hours just to make sure that I was breathing, ” she explained.

“ After I left the hospital, for a week at home, I still had to be on an IV and couldn’t move because anything you do that raises your blood pressure causes your throat to tighten. ”

Mai said she existed with cold soups and juices and only started eating more solid foods such as porridge and matzo balls.

She told people she was doing 96% better, where I can speak. I can’t scream, but I can talk ”and“ I can’t wait to get back to the gym to get my body and my health back ”.

Mai, who is engaged to rapper Jeezy, was forced to give up Dancing With The Stars in early November after being diagnosed with epiglottis.

“ What started out as a sore throat had unwittingly turned into a dangerous infection that has already closed at least 60% of my airways and resulted in a throat abscess that spread within 3 days ” , she shared with her fans via Instagram at the time.

She was immediately taken for surgery once her condition was diagnosed in which her tonsils were removed and the abscess in her throat opened to drain the fluid.
