Texas officials said officials have determined that a man who has been missing for months has been devoured by his own pack of aggressive dogs.

According to KTVT, Freddie Mack, 57, was known as a recluse during his lifetime, but family members became worried after weeks without words from him.

In early May, Mack's relatives contacted the Johnson County Sheriff's Office to report his disappearance apparently after April 19.

The investigators then tried to search his house near Venus, but met 18 dogs nearby, as reported by New York Post. Members of his family have noted that he would not usually leave the animals unattended. After they were finally able to control parts of the property by drone, the deputies said there was no trace of the missing person.

Mack was later declared missing. New developments indicate that the dogs found at the scene are at the origin of his disappearance.

When the police carried out a second search at home, reports indicate that they recovered bone fragments that were subsequently processed by the medical examiner's office. Yet another more in-depth research came after a total of 16 dogs were removed from the property.

Additional evidence found that day would have included hair, tissue and more bone fragments. Tissues have also been found in faeces of animals. While they are convinced that the dogs ate the body of their owner, Sheriff Adam King explained that it was not clear if they had killed or if one of the "serious health problems" he was suffering from.

"Anyway, it's a very macabre event," said King, expressing his condolences to Mack's loved ones.
