Recount claims Joe Biden won Georgia

On Friday morning, preliminary results of an automatic recount from the November 3 presidential election posted on the Georgia Secretary of State’s website show Joe Biden winning the state by less than 12,000 votes – about 900 fewer than a manual count of ballots found last. month.

The recount – the third count of Georgia’s 5 million votes – was carried out at the behest of President Donald Trump’s campaign because Biden’s margin of victory was less than 0.5%.

By 5:17 p.m. Thursday, all 159 counties in Georgia had submitted their voting totals to the state. If there is even a difference of one vote after the ballots are re-digitized, counties must recertify the election. On Friday 4:10 p.m., Coffee County was the only one not yet recertified.

Unofficial results on the state’s website show Biden 11,773 votes ahead of President Donald Trump out of 5 million votes, although the results of some absent or provisional polls are not yet included in the total. After a manual count of all the ballots within two weeks of the election, Biden’s lead was 12,670.

In the unofficial count of the recount early Friday afternoon, Biden had 865 fewer votes and Trump had 32 more votes.

The state is expected to finalize and certify the statewide results on Friday.

The political and legal struggle over elections will not end with certification. There were dueling Senate hearings on Thursday. A hearing brought together representatives from the Secretary of State’s office answering questions from members of the Government’s Oversight Committee and explaining how the election went, what may help it perform better in the future and why there is no plot to manipulate Georgia’s results.

State election officials said any further review of the ballots would have to go through a court order.
