Recruits of the giants shine against the Bengals

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT DEFENSE:

* The Giants wanted the defense of their first team to start quickly, so they did not want to give 28 yards on a tight screen in the first game. But two recruits limited the damage there. Dexter Lawrence defensive line exerted pressure in the middle of the field and a bullet in the line of scrimmage allowed Corey Ballentine to break Andy Dalton's next pass to force a punt.

* The first two Cincinnati records ended in curls, but Dalton found the end zone on the third with another tight end. Chief Justice Uzomah took a safety step forward, Jabrill Peppers, and scored a 26-yard touchdown to put the Bengals at rest at the end of the first quarter.

* After registering her first bag in the NFL a week ago, the rookie ahead of linebacker Oshane Ximines added two more on Thursday night. Keion Adams, Sean Chandler and Josiah Tauaefa also used the quarterback to bring the total to five Giants bags, two more than they had against the Bears.

WHAT WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT SPECIAL TEAMS:

* Kicker Aldrick Rosas, a Pro Bowler from last year, attempted his only placement attempt with a 41-yard placement to stay perfect in the pre-season.

* The ghosts still had a good night. Brittan Golden scored on a 68-yard kick return to extend the Giants' lead to eight points in the fourth quarter. However, he was quickly spoiled when Golden missed a pot in his next attempt and the Bengals recovered.
