Red All Over: Utes moved his football match against Idaho State to open the season against BYU

In seven of the first eight years of its entry into the Pac-12, Utah opened the football season against an opponent of the Big Sky Conference. It had already happened in 2019, but the first weekend of the year had become the only opportunity for Utes to meet BYU.

The Utes originally planned the state of Idaho for the August 29 opening, under a contract between the Salt Lake Tribune and a request for open records. This contract was signed in 2014. A year later, when BYU and Utah negotiated an extension of the rivalry, the ISU agreed to move the game to Sept. 14.

Utah had scheduled northern Illinois on Sept. 7, and BYU had been booked with USC on Sept. 14. The Labor Day weekend was therefore the only potential niche for the game of rivalry. Utah is paying $ 550,000 to the UIS to visit Rice-Eccles Stadium next month.

• At about the same time that Ute's volleyball team meets No. 7 Kentucky at the Huntsman Center on Friday night, the Utah football team will name the new Ute field on campus. west of the softball stadium of the Dumke family.
