A group of Red Dead 2 players are discussing what they want from an RDR3, which is another prequel, but the protagonist’s choice can be surprising.
Due to the success of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Rockstar Games in general, Red dead 3 seems to be a matter of when, not if. Rockstar has a reputation for releasing big games years apart, and that means RDR3 maybe not even a sparkle in anyone’s eyes yet. Grand Theft Auto 6, for example, is still years away, and it stands to reason Red dead 3 would only come after.
That hasn’t stopped players from discussing what they would expect from a new game. The rich storyline and setting open the door to a ton of possibilities, while a ton of Red Dead Redemption 2 the characters deserve their own game. Sequel or prequel to Red Dead 3, with Jack Marston, Sadie Adler or even Arthur Morgan as the protagonists, are all things that have been tossed about. One recent discussion, however, is perhaps more interesting than others.

Redditor Theyeet7 posted a thought-provoking post on the game’s subreddit, simply calling for a prequel with Hosea as the protagonist. There are a few questions that revolve around a potential Red dead 3: Will it be a sequel to the original, where players play as Jack Marston during WWI? Many believe that the deadline is too limited, and therefore for many, yet another Red Dead redemption the prequel makes sense. In this case, many have called for another match with Arthur Morgan or Sadie Adler as Dead red protagonist, which means Hosea is a little weird.
However, this quirk has led to some serious discussion of how a Dead red the game would work with Hosea. It would appear that many would like it to end before the Blackwater Massacre, so this event retains its mysterious appeal. Others want it to go even further back to a young Hosea, perhaps detailing the events around meeting Dutch, Arthur, and John. It’s dubious to go back any further than that due to various limitations, but Hosea’s role in the Dutch van der Linde gang is actually ripe for exploration.
What’s interesting is how well this setup would work with typical game transitions. In the first game, players switch from player John Marston to Jack Marston. In Red Dead Redemption 2, players switch from Arthur to John. In a third game starring Hosea, while he couldn’t die, it would make sense to hand over to Arthur again.
In both cases, Red Dead Redemption 3 is so far away that Rockstar probably doesn’t know what it is, and more general Rockstar fans will likely be busier speculating and digging for GTA 6 details that RDR3. This gives Dead red fans have plenty of time to speculate on what might come up next.
