FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Red Sox have been living in a dark atmosphere throughout the Wednesday morning, canceling any access to the club while announcing that a player was facing a family emergency.
Just before the Sox grapefruit league's first game against the Orioles at JetBlue Park, the team announced the details of the tragedy: 23-year-old Blake Swihart's brother, Romell Jordan, died suddenly. No other details have been given.
Swihart was originally in the Red Sox starting lineup, but was scratched hours before the start of the match.
