Red Sox-Orioles opening day game postponed due to weather

Bad weather caused the Boston Red Sox’s opening day game to be postponed against the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox announced Thursday morning that the game will be moved to Friday.

“The decision to postpone our first game of the season was not taken lightly,” Red Sox president and CEO Sam Kennedy said in the postponement announcement. “The integrated day off was created for this purpose and the sun forecast for tomorrow was also taken into account in our decision. We can’t wait to have fans returning to Fenway Park for the first time in 18 months and look forward to welcoming everyone tomorrow in brighter, drier conditions.

It sank overnight in Boston, and with the weather expected to clear in the late afternoon, it was unclear how that would impact the field. Considering that the forecast for Friday is much more promising and it was already a planned day off, it made sense to move the game.

Everything is simply postponed by 24 hours.
