The return to the mound was long for Jason Groome, a native of New Jersey, but the product Barnegat High School has returned after 15 months of play.
Groome, who was operated by Tommy John in May 2018, Wednesday pitched a round for the Gulf Coast League Red Sox, in which he allowed a hit while eliminating a pair of hitters.
Jon Heyman of MLB said Groome's fastball was between 93 and 95 mph in his first game on the mound.

Groome was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft. He then left high school with a $ 3.65 million contract with Boston.
Prior to his operation, Groome had been named in January 2018 the number one nominee within the Red Sox organization by the Baseball Prospectus.
In his first professional season in 2017, Groome finished with a 3-9 record and a 5.69 mark by eliminating 72 and scoring 30 in 55.1 on two different levels of professional ball.
Groome turns 21 on August 25, and while the 6-6kg, 220-pound southpaw has been nominated as a starting pitcher, the team will regularly increase his arm strength and stamina to bring him back to a spin.
Groome started pitching earlier this summer and was on the right track to return to the game at that time.
In July, Groome's agent told the Boston Globe that it was all right for the pitcher.
