Martinez will be present during the Boston Red Sox visit to the White House on May 9 to celebrate their World Series championship.

Several Red Sox players, including Mookie Betts and Jackie Bradley Jr., have already announced they will not join the team in Washington. But Martinez will make the trip and he seems excited about this opportunity.

"I think it's an honor to go there," Martinez said at a press conference at Fenway South. "… It's our capital, it's the White House. Few people will go there.

"I'm excited about it."

The visit to the White House was just one of the many topics Martinez discussed at his first press conference in the spring.
