Reddit users reported outages in the United States and Canada for a short time on Saturday, Reuters reported, citing an outage monitor. Downdetector.
A map on Downdetector’s website showed customers reporting problems signing in to Reddit and sending messages, according to Reuters. Areas like New York, Boston and Washington, DC have been affected, as has Toronto.
Saturday afternoon, Downdetector reported no problem with Reddit. Reddit operational page also showed no problems.
A Reddit spokesperson told Reuters: “We had some issues with higher error rates this week. … This meant slower load times for some users, but we’ve never been tough.
The statement also said it was not tracking any issues on Saturday.
Reddit did not immediately return a request for comment from The Hill.
Reddit grabbed the headlines this week after users of the r / WallStreetBets forum boosted the value of shares of several companies such as GameStop and Nokia which were sold by hedge funds.
The move rocked Wall Street and the Securities and Exchange Commission said Friday that he was investigating whether market manipulation was the cause of the recent outbreaks.
