With this fictitious On the Clock Trade scenario, I wanted to explore a potential takeover option for Dwayne Haskins. Although I prefer to wait to see if you can put Haskins at age 15 or make a more modest exchange, it does seem that the Redskins have a real chance to take a big step forward. For this scenario, I traded with the Raiders, sending out the 15th, 96th and 2020 first round picks for the 4th overall selection. Although it is a solid cost, it is not as prohibitive as the RGIII trade in 2012.

4: QB DWAYNE HASKINS, STATE OF THE OHIO
– Giving a first year next should never be taken for granted, but if the Redskins really want to fix their QB, it's worth it. Haskins has the ability to be an annual top 10 QB in this league as he grows. He is probably the best QB in the class when it comes to reading defenses and throwing with anticipation. Haskins is not a finished product and there will be growing pains, but the good side of things is legitimate and it could give the Redskins the best value that they have since Joe Gibbs 1.0.
64: S DARNELL SAVAGE, JR., MARYLAND
-Savage is a player that I have already mentioned several times. It is a free quality safety prospect with elite athletic abilities. He would be an instant starter on the Redskins and give them one of the league's best security couples. I've traded it to help land 3rd and 4th extra to offset some of the trading loss.
76: WR EMANUEL HALL, MISSOURI
-Hall is one of the best recipients of deep threats in this project and can become vertical on anyone. His size / speed combo is impressive, but what keeps him out of the top 50 is his cruelty in running and the nuance of the position. In Missouri, he was mainly asked to become vertical and he needs a little refinement. With a good training and a little time, the advantage is there for him to become a major weapon in an offense.
101: G MICHAEL JORDAN, STATE OF THE OHIO
-Jordan has experience in both the center and the guard, and is able to start at the next level in one or the other role. Guard is probably his best position and should plead in his favor for LG next year for the Redskins. Jordan is a very good blocker who helped protect Haskins en route to his season.
134: WR ANTHONY JOHNSON, BUFFALO
Although the Redskins have already added a receiver, they should be looking to double their position. Johnson is a really solid goal for the mid-term team. He is a good size and does a very good job with disputed catch. It's not a burner, but it has a decent deep speed. He is a guy who should contribute early in his career and give the Redskins the depth they so badly need.
153: TE DREW SAMPLE, WASHINGTON
– The sample is one of the many second-level TEs of this class whose profile is at least one grade 2 TE, if it is a potential starter. Sample has a good size and uses it both as a blocker and as a receiver in traffic. He has good athleticism for the job and can play some games in the field. If the Redskins retained Vernon Davis this year, Sample would be governed by Level 3 rights, but should have a decent time frame given its blocking ability. In the long run, it should assume the role of number 2 for 2020 and could even replace Jordan Reed in the future.
173: G RYAN BATES, PENN STATE
-The beats started both at the attack and at the college guard, but the numbers should primarily be used indoors at the next level. Bates will not impress you with his athletic abilities or his power, but shows good feet and a general technique. There is potential for starting on the road if Jordan fails, but at worst, it should be a quality depth option capable of backing up any position on the line.
206: LB JOE GILES-HARRIS, DUC
-Giles-Harris is a low ceiling prospect, but he has a decent floor and should be able to make the NFL into a reserve / special team. He has a sturdy waist and plays with a decent instinct to align with his leadership traits.
227: EDGE CARL GRANDERSON, WYOMING
-Granderson is a good option for the Redskins at the end of round here, as he has shown real skills in Wyoming. It is a solid perspective of development that can help in a situational role early in one's career. He may never become a full-time starter, but there is potential here.
253: CB JORDAN BROWN, STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA
– The brown is higher on a number of tips, but as we see each year, the perspectives of the third day are quite varied. Brown really has a good size and a great athletic ability, but he is still learning to make the most of his skills. It displays traits that make you think it could be among the top 4 corners of a depth map, but it will probably still have a few years to play. In the meantime, he can help special teams.
Overview:
Although I'm generally not a fan of trade in the repechage and dropping a first-round pick, Haskins is a player for whom I would make an exception. I really believe he is a franchise player who in a few years will be among the best in the league. He is still developing, but his arm talent and mental treatment make me believe that he is capable of realizing his potential.
Regarding the rest of the class, I consider it primarily as a group of adding support to Haskins as an offense. Hall has big benefits and the ability to be a deep threat to the next level. Although he never fully developed into a complete receiver, Hall's skills should enable him to help a team. Anthony Johnson and Sample are two other solid catch options that can contribute in the first two years. Adding a teammate to Haskins College along the offensive line is also a good choice. Jordan can be a good starter in this league and should play as a rookie.
The defense took the back seat in this class with the exception of adding Savage to the 2nd round. Savage gives the Redskins an instant entry and, hopefully, the last piece of their high school. Other defensive choices are late players who will likely have a maximum reserve reserve.
Although the total cost of this move will not be reached until next year, the Redskins will have a good deal with a class of Haskins, Savage, Hall, Jordan, Johnson and Sample. This should be 3-4 entries and 2 key contributors. Not only that, but it corrects the massive need of the Redskins at quarterback.
