Reggie Warren Dead of R&B Group TROOP at 52

Reggie Warren – one of the original five members of the R&B group TROOP – has passed away … TMZ has learned.

A representative of the group told us that Reggie died at his San Bernardino County home on Sunday, surrounded by his family. We are told he has had health issues for some time now and was even hospitalized for a few months in January.

The representative said Reggie was released from hospital on Saturday with the hope of dying. We are told his death is unrelated to COVID – but the family did not want to discuss an official cause until an autopsy could be performed.

Reggie started with TROOP during his training in the 80s, alongside childhood friends Rodney Benford, John harreld, Steve russell and Allen McNeil. Russell paid tribute to his longtime collaborator in an IG article on Sunday, writing … “Well done bro, I’ll see you on the other side RIP Reggie Warren. #DamnReggie.”

The quintet signed to Atlantic Records and released their debut album in 1988, which saw success in their debut single “Mamacita”. They are best known for their second album, “Attitude”, which spawned two number 1s in songs like “All I Do is Think of You” and “Spread My Wings”.

Beyond their musical success, TROOP – which stands for Total Respect of Other People – could also be remembered as the a capella group singing a cover of “Living For the City” in the cult classic “New Jack City” – which they all appear briefly during an edit.

‘Living For the City’ was crushed with Queen latifah“For the Love of Money” – also featured in the film – for a memorable mix that ended up being associated with “NJC”.

The band took a hiatus in the late 90s, but got back together and toured in the 2000s and beyond … after appearing in concert with notable artists like Boyz II Men, Keith sweatshirt, Jon B, Brian McKnight and other artists and groups that were popular at the time.

Looks like the guys stayed on good terms throughout the 2010s as they often appeared together at different public events like the BET Awards and beyond.

Reggie was 52 years old.
