Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced on Sunday that Region 2, located in the western part of the state, will see improved coronavirus mitigation put in place after reporting a positivity rate of over 8% for three consecutive days.
With the announcement, all 11 of Illinois state health care regions will now operate under improved mitigation rules due to high positivity rates and hospitalizations.
The new rules will take effect on Wednesday, the governor said.
Region 2 includes the counties of Rock Island, Henry, Bureau, Putnam, Kendall, Grundy, Mercer, Knox, Henderson, Warren, McDonough, Fulton, Stark, Marshall, Peoria, Tazwell, McLean, Woodford, Livingston and LaSalle.
Under the new rules, all indoor dining and bar services will be suspended for at least two weeks, with gathering sizes now limited to 50 people or less.
“I know that the vast majority of people in this state want to ensure their safety, their families and children, their parents, neighbors and friends,” Pritzker said in a statement. “As cases, hospitalizations and deaths increase in our state, the Midwest, and across the country, we must act responsibly and collectively to protect the people we love.
Currently, nine other regions of the state operate under the same restrictions as Region 2, with Region 1 operating under a second tier of restrictions in the northwest corner of the state. There, the size of gatherings is even more limited, with 10 or fewer people allowed to assemble, according to health officials.
