Remains found in Shenandoah National Park, search for suspended UVA speaker

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – According to a press release from Shenandoah National Park, a body was found on Saturday, July 24 at 10 a.m.

Preliminary identification indicates that these are the remains of Julia Devlin of Charlottesville, Virginia. The search for Devlin has been put on hold.

According to the statement, researchers found the body on steep and rugged terrain in the southernmost part of the park.

AVU speaker Devlin was last seen on July 14 and her car was found in a wreck on July 17.

The body is taken to an Augusta County medical examiner for a positive identification as well as to determine the cause of death.

Luray, VA – Based on a preliminary identification of the remains found on Saturday, July 24, 2021, Julia Christine Devlin’s search conducted by Shenandoah National Park with support from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Albemarle Sheriff’s Department, FBI and NPS Investigative Services Branch has been suspended.

The body of a woman believed to be Ms Devlin was discovered by researchers today at 10:00 am on extremely steep and rugged terrain in the southernmost part of the park.

Ms Devlin was last seen on Wednesday July 14. His vehicle was discovered in an accident and abandoned in the park on Saturday July 17.

The body is transported to the Augusta County Medical Examiner’s office for a positive identification and determination of the cause of death.

Shenandoah National Park joins the Virginia Department of Emergency Management in thanking the many organizations involved, including the Search and Rescue Tracking Institute, Va. Search and Rescue Dog Association, Blue and Gray K9s, Greater Atlantic Rescue Dog, Piedmont Search and Rescue, Shenandoah Mountain Rescue Group, Christian Aid Ministries Search and Rescue, TROT Search and Rescue, Potomac Appalachian Trail Club, Page County Citizens Emergency Corps, Virginia Communications Cache and Rockingham-Augusta Searach and Rescue.
