Reminder of smoke detectors due to the risk of failure of activation

Check your smoke detectors. Universal Security Instruments recalls 180,000 smoke detection units due to the risk that they can not warn you in the event of a fire.

The recall involves Universal Instruments 10-year battery-operated smoke and fire alarms with model numbers MI3050S and MI3050SB and date codes between January 19 and July 19, 2016. .

Units were sold online from July 2015 to December 2016 for approximately $ 20 each. They are white and 5½ inches in diameter. "Universal" and "Smoke and Fire Alarm" are printed on the alarm cover.

Alarms may have an internal switch misaligned which could prevent the alarm from being triggered in case of fire.

Consumers should inspect their smoke alarm to determine if it will activate properly by pressing the test button. If the alarm sounds, no further action is required.

If the alarm does not sound, contact Universal Security for a replacement.

The company received 134 reports of failure of the correct activation.
