Mario

One of the hottest talking points in the Nintendosphere this year is about to end, as we have finally arrived at March 31, otherwise known as “Mario doomsday”.

Yes, after months of talking about it and wondering what it means for Nintendo’s future, today is the day that Super Mario 3D All-Stars, Super Mario Bros. 35, the Super Mario Game system & Watch and all Super Mario Bros. 35 merchandise will be completely withdrawn from sale. Super Mario Maker has also shut down its online services, and even Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light is also being sacrificed.

While you power find a way or two to catch Super Mario 3D All-Stars after the apocalypse, it wouldn’t hurt to buy any of the products mentioned above as long as you still have the chance. Here’s Nintendo’s official takedown notice, if you need a recap:

“The 35th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. will end on March 31, 2021. After that date, the following limited-time products and services, released in special recognition of Super Mario Bros. 35th anniversary, will expire or be removed from sale.

The digital version of Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be available until March 31, 2021. If you purchased the digital version before March 31, 2021, you will be able to redownload the software after that date if it has been archived or removed from your console. The physical version of Super Mario 3D All-Stars will be available at your local retailers while supplies last. Please check with your local dealer for information on current availability.

The Super Mario Bros. 35 service will end on March 31, 2021 and will no longer be playable, even if you still have the game downloaded on your Nintendo Switch console.

The Game & Watch system: Super Mario Bros. will continue to ship to retailers until approximately March 31, 2021 and will be available for purchase while supplies last. Please check with your local dealer for information on current availability.

Clothing and other products included in the Super Mario Bros. 35th Anniversary Collection on Nintendo’s official UK store will be withdrawn from sale on March 31, 2021. “

So long, Mario. It was good to know you.
