A recent report suggests that General Motors is working on a more extreme off-road version of its new Chevrolet Silverado 1500 truck. The Muscle Cars & Trucks report says the new model will call Silverado ZRX and will be available as a model 2022.

General Motors has not yet supplied any direct competitors to the Ford F-150 Raptor. Now, the FCA is also working on a Ram Rebel TRX off-road beast. GM could be forced to develop a full size truck to compete with the Raptor, the TRX and any other high-performance off-road pickup.

What does all this mean? What is the name of ZRX? GM had already used the ZRX badge for a special edition of the 2003 GMC Sonoma (Sonoma ZRX). The name of the ZRX could rise directly against the TRX and the Raptor.

The report is also based on the fact that GM recently renewed the name ZRX with the US Trademark Office.

Will the Silverado ZRX be an off-road trophy truck spitting fire in the street? No official information is still available, but Chevrolet could use heavier DSSV off-road dampers for this truck. That's what they showed for the Silverado ZH2 fuel cell concept truck with hydrogen.

It is also possible that it uses off-road dampers from Fox or another manufacturer of high performance suspensions.

The report says that it is unlikely that GM will introduce a more powerful engine for the future ZRX. The company can use standard versions of the 6.2-liter gas V8 or a 3.0-liter I6 turbo-diesel. The company may need to rethink this strategy. Much of what makes the Ford Raptor special is a high-performance engine with 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. Rumor has it that Ram Rebel TRX will supply the Hellcat engine with a maximum power of 707 horsepower.

GM has several very powerful engines in its arsenal, so a more powerful version should be possible.

The most popular off-road truck today is the Silverado 1500 Trail Boss. Here it is on a difficult track of Cliffhanger 2.0.
