The Bears have requested permission to speak with Cowboys senior defensive assistant George Edwards for the opening of their defensive coordinator, ESPN’s Todd Archer reports.
The Cowboys want to keep Edwards, who was Minnesota’s 2014-19 defensive coordinator, but they can’t block the request.
Edwards spoke to Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy about the Dallas coordinator’s job before the team hired Dan Quinn, according to Archer.
The Bears replace Chuck Pagano, who retired after two years with the franchise.
They also asked to interview Colts defensive back coach Jonathan Gannon and defensive line coach Jay Rodgers and safety coach Sean Desai as internal candidates.
