Less than a month before the trial of former Minneapolis cop Derek Chauvin began, a new report indicates that Chauvin was ready to plead guilty to murder and avoid trial before his deal was blocked by federal officials.

A report by The New York Times on Wednesday night said Chauvin believed the case against him in George Floyd’s death was so serious that he agreed to plead guilty to third degree murder and was prepared to go to jail for more than 10 years.
