Raiders quarterback Marcus Mariota has been the subject of trade talks this month, but a deal may not be as likely as it was a few weeks ago.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the talks between the Raiders and the other teams “have kinda failed”, but you have significantly cooled in the last days. Mariota’s contract seems to be the sticking point.

He’s set to hit a base salary of $ 10.625 million with a cap of $ 11.35 million, but the contract incentives could more than double his pay if he leaves for the entire 2021 season.

That base salary without the incentives probably might not be a big deal for a team that considers Mariota a starter. It will be difficult for the Raiders to keep Mariota as a backup for Derek Carr and the prospect of Mariota’s release may also be a factor for teams to pull out of a potential trade for the second overall pick in the 2015 Draft.
