Report: Detroit Lions drop veteran WR Marvin Hall

Friday night Mike Garafolo from NFL Network filed a surprising report regarding the Detroit Lions. Apparently, veteran wide receiver Marvin Hall is called off by the team.

Last year, Hall signed a two-year contract with Detroit, and immediately made an impact as the Lions’ only wide receiver who could stretch the pitch with his speed. Although he caught just seven assists in 2019, he turned those opportunities into 261 yards, averaging an incredible 37.3 yards per catch and establishing himself as Detroit’s deep threat.

This year it has not been so impactful. He’s got more catches (17) and a little more yards (290), but he’s only averaging “only” 17.1 yards per take.

The move comes at an odd moment, as star receiver Kenny Golladay sidelined with a hip injury. However, the move suggests the Lions may be more willing to give fifth-round rookie Quintez Cephus more playing time. The former Badgers wide receiver has only 12 catches this season so far, and he’s been in good health on many occasions. Of course, with interim head coach Darrell Bevell taking over, it may be a sign that he’s going on the offense in a slightly different situation.

At the moment, the corresponding list move has not yet been announced. However, given that Detroit is shorthanded in high school, don’t be surprised if they decide to remove Darryl Roberts from the injured reserve or promote Dee Virgin from the practice squad.
