Report: Former Penn State RB coach Charles Huff to be named Marshall’s head coach

It was only a matter of time, but the day has finally come: Charles Huff is the head coach of a Power Five program. The former Penn State running backs coach and special teams coordinator will be named Marshall Thundering Herd’s head coach, according to multiple reports.

Huff first coached with James Franklin in 2009, when they were both in Maryland. Franklin was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, while Huff was an assistant offensive line coach. When Franklin got the job of Vanderbilt in 2013, he took Huff with him for a quality control job. The two eventually reunited in Happy Valley, when Franklin hired Huff as a running back coach and special teams coordinator. Huff proved his worth during his time in Happy Valley, recruiting and training personalities like Saquon Barkley and Miles Sanders. He also revolved around a special teams unit which was pretty appalling when his tenure began. During the 2016 and 2017 seasons, the Nittany Lions special teams were in a much better position.

Huff followed Joe Moorhead to Mississippi State, where he was appointed assistant head coach and running game coordinator in addition to his role as running back coach. After a season at Starkville, Huff moved to Alabama where he spent the last two seasons as an assistant head coach and running backs coach for Nick Saban.

Despite the fact that Huff was never an offensive coordinator, he has long been a person committed as a future head coach due to his organizational skills and elite recruiting ability. He also * blocked me on Twitter for asking to recruit a fullback, so he’s clearly not wasting his time with nonsense.

* Note: he has since unlocked me thank you very much

While Huff is set to become a head coach, he becomes James Franklin’s third assistant to be in charge of an FBS program, joining Joe Moorhead and Ricky Rahne.
