Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie appears to be the driving force behind Jalen Hurts seeing a increased role as quarterback in the Philadelphia Eagles attack. At least, that’s what this report from Adam Caplan from Inside The Birds states:
This report makes sense in the wake of Lurie reportedly being frustrated with the team. He clearly wants to see changes.
The report also makes sense from the point of view of power. We previously talked about how Carson Wentz has many control and we wondered if Doug Pederson really had the power to place the Eagles’ starting quarterback. Assuming this report to be true, it appears he was unable to make this call without the owner’s blessing.
To be clear, this report does not claim that Wentz at summer bench. He is expected to start against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night.
But the fact that the Eagles are removing some of Wentz’s clichés indicates that a full-time change is closer than not.

The point here for the Eagles to do this, according to the sources I’ve spoken to, is to keep the defense guessing. To open up the possibility for him to throw the ball and not take away one of those catcher spots by having Wentz there. They are ADAMANTS that Carson Wentz is not put on the bench.
But, look, if Wentz is playing well, then we’ll see more of Wentz. And he will continue to have a grip on his work. But if Hurts plays well, we’ll probably see more Hurts.
The question of how many Carson Wentz we’re going to see lies, for the most part, in Carson Wentz’s hands.
Lol. Look, I know people get frustrated with the coaching staff, and rightly so. But I can’t believe they’re so stupid they didn’t think Hurts was allowed to throw more often. Or that having Wentz lined up wide was a waste.
It seems to me that this alleged reasoning is used to divert real reason Hurts is online to see playing time … because Wentz is really struggling.
For a game that lacks intrigue in the sense that the Eagles are expected to lose, it will be very interesting to see how the Eagles handle their quarterback position on Monday night. If Wentz is playing poorly against the NFL’s worst pass defense, apparently the green light is on for him to be replaced.
