There has been an Apple leakage attack outside of the Bloomberg trade publication over the past week, and the latest gives a bit more detail on an upcoming MacBook Air redesign.
Like the others, the report quotes anonymous people familiar with Apple’s plans. He claims that a newly redesigned MacBook Air (presumably with Apple’s M1 chip for Mac or a successor to that chip) “will hit the market in the second half of this year or in 2022 at the earliest.”
But buried in that MacBook Air report may also be big news for a certain group of Mac users: it claims Apple plans to reintroduce the SD card slot in newer MacBook Pros – a detail that has been left out. aside in a story about these computers earlier in the week.
The current MacBook Air M1 will remain in the range, while this new MacBook Air will be a “high-end” alternative that will be sold alongside it. Why is it high end, you might ask? Well, Bloomberg sources claim it will be even thinner and lighter than the model currently available.
In addition, the footprint of the laptop will be smaller as the bezels will be reduced, but the screen will still be 13 inches. This is a different approach than what Apple has taken before (and should continue to take) with its MacBook Pro line. In November 2019, Apple released a 16-inch MacBook Pro to replace the older 15-inch model, but the footprint was the same, while the screen took up much of the space that was previously the bezel, which increased the screen size.
The report also states that the new MacBook Air will have MagSafe – which was stated by the same publication a few days ago about the upcoming MacBook Pro models. MagSafe was a key feature of old Apple laptops, but Apple has phased it out of the product line in recent years before releasing it into the iPhone 12 in 2020.
In the Mac, MagSafe is a power port and accompanying cord that attaches lightly and magnetically. The cord is easy to insert, but if the cord is pulled, it will come out smoothly rather than pulling the laptop with it. The goal was to avoid situations where a device owner could trip over the cord and accidentally pull the laptop from a desk or table, damaging it.
Finally, today’s Bloomberg report says that Apple has “considered” making a MacBook Air with a 15-inch display, but that plan won’t happen this generation after all.
Reports earlier this week claimed that Apple was planning to introduce a new iPhone in 2021 with an in-display fingerprint reader.
They also said we should expect a 14in MacBook Pro with a bigger and better screen to replace the current 13in model, along with faster graphics and CPU performance. Also comes a successor to the 16in MacBook Pro, which is also said to have a better screen and which would bring Apple’s silicon to this product.
Finally, the leaks predicted that an iMac redesign is coming, with Apple Silicon and a new design, as well as a cheaper alternative to Apple’s ProDisplay XDR monitor aimed at consumers.
