While Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7 on Tuesday, it has additional announcements in store for later this fall. Perhaps most notably, that includes the long-awaited 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros powered by the M1X processor. A new report today indicates that these machines could be available in “the next few weeks”.
In the latest edition of his Light up newsletter, Mark Gurman details expectations for the iPhone 13 and Apple Watch Series 7, but also teases that Apple has other announcements planned for later this fall: new AIrPods, an iPad mini, and an iPad from entry-level redesigned, and the MacBook Pros M1X.
Gurman writes that after delays, the new MacBook Pros M1X should be ready to “hit stores in the next few weeks.”
MacBook Pro M1X: 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros with premium M1 chips, MagSafe magnetic charging, miniLED displays, and no touch bars in sight. After delays, expect them to hit shelves in the next few weeks.
We still don’t expect the MacBook Pro M1X to be announced at Tuesday’s event. Instead, what’s more likely is that Apple is hosting a separate virtual event in October to announce the new MacBook Pro hardware and the new iPad hardware. A previous supply chain report had indicated that Apple was planning to increase production of the MacBook Pro M1X by October.
The new MacBook Pros will be said to feature a new, flat-edged design similar to what we’ve seen in the latest iMac, iPad Pro, and iPhone 12 designs.
Bloomberg also reported that the new MacBook Pros will include an HDMI port and an SD card slot, as well as the return of MagSafe technology for magnetic charging. Images and diagrams leaked as part of an Apple ransomware attack apparently corroborated this.
