The Los Angeles Chargers Patient List will receive a welcome addition on Thursday when Melvin Gordon ends his career.
By NFL network Ian RapoportGordon plans to travel to the Chargers' facility, but will not be active for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.
ESPN Josina Anderson reported earlier in the day that Gordon was planning to return in October, but he changed his mind after feeling "the best way to show its value "for a potential expansion is to play games.
By ESPN Yates fieldGordon lost $ 989,117 basic salary plus other potential fines for training camp. Shippers may cancel these fines if they wish, but it is unclear whether they will do so at this stage.
Gordon missed the activities organized by the Chargers team, the training camp and all pre-season preparations in the hope of securing a new long-term agreement . His agent, Damarius Bilbo, said Anderson in August, he requested an exchange on behalf of his client while Los Angeles did not increase its initial offer of expansion worth approximately $ 10 million a year.
The Chargers have had to deal with many injuries this season. Starting striker Russell Okung, safety Derwin James and back defenders Adrian Phillips and Trevor Williams are all part of the injured reserve.
Austin Ekeler has been a solid replacement for Gordon for three games. The 24-year-old leads the team with 57 touchdowns and four touchdowns and is second with 368 yards in the scrum.
Getting Gordon into the fold gives offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt another playmaker who can help him improve his current average of 20 points per game.
