Rashan Gary has been injured in the shoulder during the 2018 Michigan season, "reported" recently by NFL teams, NFL Network spokesman Ian Rapoport said on Tuesday.

"It's a college tear and most believe it can play this season, and eventually undergo surgery," Rapoport wrote on Twitter. "It will probably have to be managed or exploited,"

Gary, a 6-foot-4, 277-pound player, has been on the NFL editorial board in recent days. ESPN analyst Mel Kiper Jr. said Monday that a general manager had a gap between 10-28.

The shoulder injury prevented Gary from playing three games during the 2018 season and limited him to two more, which resulted in a decrease in production compared to his second year. He totaled 44 tackles (7 1/2 for a loss) and 3 1/2 sacks.

Nonetheless, Gary is considered an outstanding athlete and is well on his way to a defensive team, scoring the 40-yard scorecard in the NFL Selection Game in 4.58 seconds. He is a former No. 1 in the selection and has been considered both among the top five picks.

"I see people trying, for example, to criticize a player," said Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh this week on his "Attack Each Day" podcast. "Rashan Gary runs in the 4.5, he weighs 280 pounds, he's going to be in the top 10. I mean, those people who are trying to fool themselves that they are not, it's funny to me.

"They are trying to make sure that someone does not choose him in the top 10 so that he can fall and that they can take him."

The NFL draft will start in Nashville on Thursday, with the first round of the series starting at 8:00 pm. ABC, ESPN and NFL Network will all have live coverage. Michigan linebacker Devin Bush should also be a first-round pick.
