Massively powerful SUVs have recently sparked a keen interest among consumers, with offerings ranging from the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to the opulent Bentley Bentayga. Mothers and fathers are apparently more intrigued than ever by the rapid movement of their families, which means that automakers have been able to take advantage of increased market demand. With rivals at Fiat Chrysler already in the train, General Motors could soon join a carrier of people very attentive: a Cadillac Escalade with a 6.2-liter V8 supercharged.
Muscle Cars and Trucks quotes anonymous sources for the news, claiming that Escalade could borrow power from its parent relative to the (albeit remote) performance of GM, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. In its existing specification, the blown V-8 boasts the nickname of LT4 and develops 650 horsepower as well as 650 lb-ft of torque. This would be a significant advance over the naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 that is found in the current Escalade, which produces 420 horsepower and 460 pounds of torque.
Granted, and all this is not confirmed by Cadillac, it seems odd that the automaker is making cross-purchases for a performance engine while it already has the brand-specific Blackwing V-8 that should to be a real murderer. This plant is a newly developed 4.2-liter twin turbos with double overhead camshaft. It should comfortably produce 550 horsepower in the Cadillac CT6-V. Other highly anticipated Blackwing models are about to arrive and, to be at the height of the outgoing V series, they will likely have power figures similar to those of the LT4 of the ZL1.
If Cadillac decided to make a Bloated Climb – whatever its engine choice – Ford and its luxury brand Lincoln would be Detroit's only competitors not to own a share of the market.
