Report: Piston trade for Hamidou Diallo

Hamidou Diallo is averaging 11.9 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists in a game for the Oklahoma City Thunder this season, but has not played a game since February 24 due to pain in the l ‘elder. Svi Mykhailiuk averaged 6.9 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in a game for the Pistons, and was shooting just 33% out of three this season.

Hey! We have our first case of Troy Weaver TRADING for one of “his guys”. Diallo was technically drafted by the Brooklyn Nets, but ended up in Oklahoma City after a few post-draft trades. When we talked about Troy Weaver Guys preseason, Diallo was a prime example – a raw, explosive athlete with excellent physical tools (6’5 with a 6’11 wingspan) who also had great concerns about to its firing capacity. Three years into his career, shooting questions persist – Diallo has never shot better than 30% out of three for an entire season – but he has carved out a role in the NBA nonetheless.

Svi Mykhailiuk, for his part, never had the filming season that I personally expected to happen this year. Svi’s bankable NBA skill was his shot, which appears to have given up on him (for now), and so he’s in Detroit. Svi was a low cost bet for the Pistons (the Pistons got a second round pick in addition to Svi in ​​the Reggie Bullock deal) which was switched to another low cost bet.

Other quick thoughts on trading:

• Throwing in another second-round pick (granted, a very, very, very distant future), Troy continues to show his disdain for the red paper making its way through a roster.
• Sekou Doumbouya is now Detroit’s longest-serving Piston, and you could forgive him for looking around nervously and pulling on his collar.
• This is probably just the first commercial (non-Derrick Rose) domino to drop in Detroit – I still expect to see Wayne Ellington, at least outright, on a flight out of Detroit before the trade deadline on the 25th. March.
• As Woj points out, Diallo will be a restricted free agent this offseason. Perhaps that answers the question of what exactly Troy Weaver was going to do with the ceiling space he might have had this offseason.

That is just about everything. I’m a little sad to see Svi go – I really liked the player he was last year, but he wasn’t that guy this year under a new front office, and that’s all it is necessary.
