Report: Sixers interested in Delon Wright and George Hill

Jason Dumas, an NBA reporter for Bleacher Report, reported that the Sixers are investigating the league on two guards: Delon Wright and George Hill. This is the second Sixers trade rumor we heard last week. Last week we saw various reports that the Sixers were interested in stretching Sacramento: Nemanja Bjelica.

The combination of these two reports shows that Daryl Morey’s interest is in the right place, as the Sixers need bigger, more reliable playing guards. If the Sixers manage to get two types of players in each of those categories, it can improve an already good Sixers team for a playoff run.

Getting back to the report in question, these two guards mentioned above would help the Sixers. Delon Wright has a career season with the rebuilding Detroit Pistons, pushed into a starting role after their first-round pick Killian Hayes fell with a labral tear to his hip. Wright averages large numbers for the pistons: 10.4 PPG, 4.9 APG, 4.7 RPG, and 1.4 SPG. Some will recall that one of its best games of the season was against the Sixers, as Detroit beat a team without Embiid. Wright posted 28 points, a season high that night.

Looking west, it’s no surprise the Sixers learned about George Hill. He’s a respected veteran who has aged well over time, posting productive numbers on good teams with Cleveland and Milwaukee. Hill was dispatched through a series of agreements to rebuild the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Hill had yet another productive season with the Thunder until he recently suffered a thumb injury. Across 14 games, he amassed a respectable stat line of 11.8 PPG, 3.1 APG, 2.1 RPG, and 0.9 SPG.

Either Hill or Wright would bring much needed play and scoring for the Sixers – who have lacked such skills of late with an injury to Shake Milton and Tyrese Maxey navigating their rookie season.

Both players earn a comparable salary and have various strengths in different areas. Hill would bring reliable guard defense and perimeter fire. He actually led the NBA with a 3-point percentage last season with the Milwaukee Bucks 46% behind the arc. Wright, on the other hand, would bring a three-tiered score to the team. He’s best when he hits the rim and has developed a decent shot that defenses need to respect.

Look for these trade rumors to continue to escalate as we get closer and closer to the March 25 trade deadline.
